What a start to the year for this kid .. even with the bad shooting night overall, he still sorta crushed it with the 16 assists and just 3 turnovers, and they were guarding him with a dude that is 6' 9" which they won't be able to do when Luka and Lebron are in the lineup. Even with that he still scored 28 with the assists and having that length guarding him did not force a lot of mistakes with the ball handling.

Amazing over the past offseason how many guys in Lakers forum were screaming to trade this kid for a two way 3 and D guy. Had we done that we would be sucking HARD with Luka and Bron out and literally nobody to run the offense.

Austin Reaves, in games where top players don't suit up and he becomes #1 option.

That's just nuts, and obviously unsustainable long term ... but not a lot of NBA guys in his position are going to do that, not a lot of teams 3rd options are going to do that if they have to step up. Not saying this kid will be in the HOF, or that he's a legit "superstar", but he should be recognized for having a lot more in bag than people ever thought, and to me he is at least a legit "star" in this league. When you can do that as the sole focus of the opposing D, especially when they put their best defenders on you, you got game. Granted McDaniels D'ed up well on Reaves holding him to 9-24 shooting, 3-10 from 3, but this is a what 6'9", 6' 10" dude, and the end result was STILL 28 points, 1 board and 16 assists with just 3 turnovers 5-1 ast to TO ratio will get it done, AND he hits the game winner. Kid is filling that offseason bag and EVERY game he has like this, minus the GUYS, makes a LOT of teams hungry and ready to FILL that bag

OK, this is ridiculous. We all know the storied players who have suited up for the Lakers over the years, yet according to
(Laker7 in a post on Lakersground) Reaves joins Magic and The Logo as the only players in franchise history with at least 170 points and 50 assists in ANY 5 game span. He is also the FIRST players in franchise history to start a season averaging 30 and 10 assists through the first 5 games.

Both those floor me, given the kind of talent this team has had over the years.
