With both Higbee and Parkinson in the final year of their contracts, I feel the Rams will draft a TE. With the 26th pick, I am pretty certain both Warren and Loveland will be gone.
The other top ranked TE's seem a bit undersized for the NFL.
I was checking out highlights from Gunnar Helm and I like some of what I saw. First, he has the size at 6'5",240LBS - at 22 years of age, he has the room to add some weight.
He is projected to go in the 3rd or 4th round.
Natural hands catcher who tracks the ball like a veteran - only two drops in his collegiate career showcase elite concentration and reliable mitts
Masterful body control in traffic - uses basketball background to box out defenders and high-point throws like he's grabbing rebounds in the paint
Nasty route runner against zone coverage - shows advanced feel for settling in soft spots and adjusting depth based on linebacker positioning
Deceptively shifty after the catch - doesn't just go down on first contact, showed multiple hurdle moves and ability to make defenders miss in space
Smart blocker who excels on the move - particularly effective sealing edges on split-zone action and climbing to second level defenders
Red zone weapon who creates throwing windows with subtle push-offs and body positioning - knows how to use his frame to shield defenders
Shows some dog in contested catch situations - consistently wins 50/50 balls and maintains possession through contact
Reliable pass protector with proper technique - anchors well against edge rushers and understands angle concepts in protection schemes
What are your thoughts?

I would take him based on his first name "gunnar." Sort of in line with Johnny Utah. But can he block? If you cant/won't block McVay won't want you.

Another option would be Oregon's Terrance Ferguson

If the two top TEs are gone, I think we wait until the 3rd round. I completely agree we need a TE. None of them see that exciting, but would probably be an upgrade to what we have now.

Oh hell no, not in the first. More like 3rd or 4th round options.

Helm, along with a few others is what makes this a solid TE draft. More than the top 2 are projected to have a good NFL careers. It is why IMO you do not trade up n give up draft capital to get a Warren or Loveland. They either fall to you or you wait till the 3rd or 4th round if you want a TE in this draft.

I think the Rams like Warren a lot but no way they move up anymore than 3 or 4 spots for him so completely out of reach. Don't forget they tried to move up for Bowers.
Loveland may be within that 3 or 4 trade up range. Just not sure its worth it when compared to someone like Helm in the 3rd.

I think Helm or Ferguson will be their target in the 3rd round. Warren is more than likely going in the top 10 or 15 so no way are they going to move up that far. Loveland could fall to them if the Chargers pass on him

I agree... I don't think the Rams move ahead of the chargers for Loveland.

In terms of Helm I like Fanning Jr. better if he is around at 90 or slightly move up.
In terms of first round move up Warren never gets past 14 to Indy in 95% of the mocks and Loveland o am not trading up for period. We can get a top flight TE in the third round. We need a CB or ILB or RT/Swing T more in the first.

Fanning scares me a little bit due to the lack of competition he played against.
