Muncy

Time for this guy to be released. I like the guy but let's face facts, his game is gone. Barely a .200 hitter over the past few seasons and his power appears to be gone. ZERO homeruns this season through 23 games, he isn't driving in runs and his fielding isn't good enough to offset that lack of production, especially at a corner infield spot

for how great this team is the Dodgers have a lot of anchors. Muncy, CT, Rojas ( hitting wise ), Confora, Outman. All of these guys are basic automatic outs.

OK .. I NEED to know what ringer thew Dodgers brought in .. Guy has raised his average damn near 100 points .. his OBP more than 250 points .. his OPS over 100 points. He suddenly can't be gotten out with RISP .. he's hitting .328 in that category .. and damn near .400 with RISP/2 outs and we need to get him up there with bases juiced ... he's 3-4, 2 HR and 12 RBI. Those are nutso numbers for him

And BOOM .. just like that, gone for 6 weeks, as usual. At least this time it was nothing he did ..

Apparently I owe Muncy an apology. Seems they can't score once he's out of the lineup other than against lefthanders

Sheesh .. Muncy goes down and the Dodgers now in a 7 game tailspin. I guess on positive is they actually scored some runs, unfortunately it's during a Dustin May start, which already means you're behind the 8 ball.
Muncy come back soon!

True enough, but they have pitched some good games in this stretch, they can't SCORE
Starting lineup today .. 4 guys UNDER .300 OBP and 6 under .320 including your #2 and #5 hitters
Your #2 guy needs to be getting on base better than that ..
They got hot when Muncy started hitting and minute he went down, their offense tanked. Only guy doing anything right now is hitting leadoff, with no hitters in the 6-9 ranges doing much about getting on base. Power has dried up for everyone not named Ohtani. I'd be looking for a middle of the order big bat and a starter. Looks like Snell was a waste of money, as was Sasaki, at the very least for this season.
I'm in favor of the Dodgers rethinking their medical staff and pitching coach, cause their ERA SUCKS balls and the last what 3 or 4 seasons, their pitching staff LIVES on the IR

OK .. Muncy back last night with and 0-3 and 1 walk .. then tonight 5-3-4-4 2 HR, Dodgers pop for 12, Ohtani scores 3 runs for the first time in a good while. He was right at 1 run per game when Muncy went down, and had dropped to 111 games 102 runs, so a good bit off his pace. Teoscar had a big night hitting behind Muncy, but damn .. his OBP is .293. That his just HORRID.
I saw this Freeland kid is at .421 (limited AB), Smith is still at .420, then Muncy has caught Ohtani at .380. Freeman, I think, is behind them is at .371 then the next guy is at .338. This team is NOT good at getting on base outside a few at the top.
Be interesting to see how this team plays over the next couple of weeks. They were rolling pretty damn well until Muncy went down. Once he was gone, the offense kind went to shit, enough so that I was hoping for a bopper at the deadline. Muncy is not usually a guy who comes of the IR hot, so this game was unexpected. I bet you'd have to go back 4 years at least to find a time Muncy was hitting better than .250 this late in the season

So, Friday he gets hit in the hand/wrist area and has to leave the game .. then Saturday he gets it in the helmet with a 94 MPH pitch, from a SINKER BALLER. Find it a bit strange that the guy who usually hits the Giants, and all season has been something of a lucky penny to the offense, even when he isn't personally doing much, just seems like everyone feels better when he's in there, just recently back from missing 23 games, and he gets hit in back to back contests.
A conspiracy theorist might make something of that

So, dealing with soreness from being hit in the arm, so out again.
However, just saw the Dodgers without Muncy in the lineup average 3.98 runs per game. With him IN the lineup, it's 5.8, that's damn near 2 runs difference

So .. Dodgers 25-29 with Munch on the sidelines .. latest run they were 79-64 the day Muncy came of the IL, they are now 88-67, so 9-3 .750 since he came back, 63-38 overall
Don't get me wrong .. no Ohtani for 54 games and that 25-29 is much worse .. but I keep looking at this and just don't understand WHY Muncy is that big a difference maker. I mean the guy normally is about a .220 ish hitter, OBP around .360, OPS around .840 maybe. Those last two are solid enough but don't scream Judge or Soto type numbers. He does walk a lot, but that isn't driving in runs, best power years are still mid 30's, not 50's and/or 60's. Bat just doesn't scream WATCH ME, and his D is generally below average at ANY position, possible exception being 1B.
Guy must be a walking lucky talisman .. I wanted him swapped out for next season, now I think they need to keep him.
Look for a better offensive/defensive CF. If you can improve from Teoscar, do it, but if he's healthy, looks like he's a solid 25+ HR close to 100 RBI guy, just don't like his OBP and not crazy about his OPS. Either put Kim in the lineup and give him a real shot, or find a 2B/SS guy who can field and do something with the bat. Time to start looking for a catcher to replace Smith in the next couple of years as well
May be time to start looking for a new pitching coach as well .. and a better staff to work with them physically. With these guys getting healthy, the starters are pitching some GREAT games, for no results. They also throw a LOT of pitches, someone get their as out there and work on their command
Core right now Ohtani, Freeman, Muncy, Pages, Smith, (Teoscar, Betts) has some holes in it and needs some upgrades.
OTOH we could have Devers, who BTW is 2-30 against the Dodgers LOL
