$53 mil a year will hurt, especially when they find out he's only slightly above average. He's not exactly durable either and at 25 has had 3 injuries to his throwing arm. The Niners had to do it but let's see how he does without Dweeb-o and Aiyuk. Also, CMC, Trent Williams, and Kittle are breaking down. Their defense will probably take a step back from last year too.

In total agreement with this. IMO, he is slightly better than average. $53M is awesome and what’s even better, how much of it is guaranteed

This is a decision that could hurt the Niners for years. As I was texting w Brooklyn on this, he had a good point though… what was the other option for the Niners?.

They had none.

If they didn’t extend Purdy, and they do bad this year, Shanny and Lynch would be looking for new jobs. But if they extend him, and do average, but not great… Shanny and Lynch live to see another season.

I’m just so glad we’re not stuck in a decision like this, where we’d be forced to sign a Purdy type QB, PLUS That’s a ton of money they committed…

Of course Purdy could do great, and I do wish him all the best (ok, not really) but I think the Niners will be the new Fisher Ball Rams… lots of 8-9 or 9-8 seasons. Maybe have a 10-7 season, or even make the playoffs one season, who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Rams just need to focus on pressuring Purdy and stopping the Run. We beat them every time when we do this.

NFCW is our Divison to lose.

Glad to hear they are allocating so much of their cap to Purdy; he is NOT a Stafford -type QB; a serviceable journeyman. Let's see what the rest of their old timers can do.

Now is the time for the Rams to stand tall in the Division.

Go Rams!

Purdy is like Flacco, Hostetler, Dilfer or Brad Johnson. He can play well enough but if he wants to win a SB it will be the other stars on the team that will have to make the plays\carry his water to win a SB. I was very happy to see him get a huge contract. I don't think it's going to play out like the Whiners hope it will...

IMO the Niners FO had no choice. what were they going to do not sign him? I love it because they are fucked with the cap. they lost 9 starters off last year's team. going to be a long year in SF

Its the sad state of the NFL QB benchmark for salaries. If you're a starter, it's 50m.

I firmly believe the way to win big in the NFL is either pay a top 5 QB franchise money and keep him, or just get a serviceable QB on a rookie deal. Once you pay the “just serviceable” guy big bucks, your ceiling is capped.

I expect the 49ers to end up like the Seahawks after they gave Wilson big money

The Guys now top 5 in QB salary. Better them than us. We don't pay Staff that much and he's a better bet for a ship In My Ram Fan opinion!!

Yes this is a real head scratcher... he is middle of the pack at best... and just above a game manager in my opinion,, this is really going to set them back unless he takes a huge step up which i just can't see.

I think coaching will keep them in the 8-11 win territory even with FA losses but can't see them going all the way with this move.

Having said all that... happy for the guy... amazing journey

I have to admit , he played amazingly well his first couple of seasons. Other than that, he is a poor man's Marc Bulger without the arm strength.

Well, unless you are Stafford. We are in a good situation. Stafford could have demanded more.

LOL!!

I'm hardly a big-time fan of Brock Purdy, however anyone could produce an 'interception video' for a QB like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Kurt Warner, Joe Montana, John Elway or Patrick Mahomes, hmmmm...?? :? :?:

RAM SEASON!!

I didn’t make the video, but anytime I can slap the Niners around, I absolutely will!!

Does every QB have a blooper reel? Of course...

BUT.....whats so interesting about Purdy, is that he had a season that was lights out. Then, started to turn average once Defenses figured him out the next season.. THEN when he gets really figured out... his team ended the season at 1-7 last year. Sure, there were some injuries, but Purdys stats in those games was average (AT BEST).

SO imo, this guy will carry the niners to be a solid .500 ball club. I like Purdy, but we are so BLESSED we didnt have to make this decision and hes not a Ram.

Purdy was Mr Irrelevant for a reason. He can move around in the pocket and buy time; but he has a rag arm, and is downright horrible when CMC is out of the lineup. McVay saw this with Goff without Gurley and had the cojones to move on from a former #1 pick! Shanahan just thinks he can make any Joe Schmo a Super Bowl winning QB. It didn't work with Garrapolo, and it ain't working with Purdy. Yeah, Whiners had no choice and are stuck with him; but a lot of that is on Shanny for not going after Stafford, Brady or Rodgers when they had the chance. With that roster, Whiners would have had a few Super Bowls under their belt with any of those 3 QBs. Now they are stuck with Purdy, and I love it!!!!!

49ers cap space this year isn't bad. But they'll be taking some big hits next year and beyond. Their top 7 highest paid will eat up around 180 million next year. Doesn't leave much for free agency and resigning key players. The final two years of Purdy's cap hit will total 137 million.

49ers might be a playoff contender. But only because of their weak schedule. I still think they will struggle to win 10 games. If they had a middle of the pack schedule I doubt they win 9 games.

Their Superbowl window is shut in my opinion. The weak schedule gives them hope for a playoff spot but if they make it they won't go far. Purdy is a game manager who no longer has elite talent around him. McCaffrey's achilles problem is probably chronic. He won't be the same. Aiyuk struggled before the injury. I doubt he'll be anything close to his 2023 level. Kittle is at the age where injuries are more frequent. Williams has been there.

The offensive line was not good and they didn't address it in the offseason. The defense lost 6 starters and wasn't that good against the run to begin with. They will be putting their hopes for improvement on a rookie class. Good luck with that.

I'm thinking their rebuild will be coming sooner than later. And the thought of that makes me smile.

keep telling everyone losing 9 starters is never a good thing. I don't think they even make the playoffs

The 49ers have lost a total of 11 starters from their Super Bowl LVIII lineup. This includes players like Deebo Samuel, Aaron Banks, Jon Feliciano, Kyle Juszczyk, Arik Armstead, Dre Greenlaw, and more.
Here's a breakdown of the starters who have left:
Offense: Deebo Samuel, Aaron Banks, Jon Feliciano, Kyle Juszczyk, Elijah Mitchell
Defense: Arik Armstead, Dre Greenlaw, Oren Burks, Charvarius Ward, Tashaun Gipson, Talanoa Hufanga

You can add Javon Hargrave to the list. Leonard Floyd wasn't part of the Superbowl team but he was another starter from last year's team that left.

I pulled that list from Google Ai.
I believe Juszczyk has re-signed.
