More evidence the "D" is becoming elite

Great stat pointed out in this article about how great the Rams defense is becoming:
"The Rams were the sixth-best defense in the NFL in Week 1, finishing with an EPA per play of -0.145. Their 36.5 percent success rate allowed ranked third-best in the league. And then there’s this stat. From 2017-2023, the Rams were 0-19 in the regular season when scoring 14 points or less. Since losing to the Arizona Cardinals 41-10 last year, the Rams are 3-0. The Rams have held five of their last seven opponents under 10 points, and that includes the Seattle game with backups last year. This defense deserves way more credit than it’s getting."

Basically I had zero questions about the defense going into week one. I do think they are a top 5 potential. Especially with Poona and The ILB upgrades.

Agree. The Rams are quietly becoming a defensive team.

Rams need a new DC for 2026, might as well put that out there now. Shula will be gone.

That’s my fear! Why can’t Shula just want to stay as a DC for his career hahaha and then take over for Mcvay when he decides to be done!!

Someone needs to show Shula what happened to Staley when he made the jump...
And...
Stay w Rams, Win Chips w the Rams, Have a good life w Rams, ... OR go to Cleveland, take the HC spot and feel like you want to slit your wrist (the long way) everyday you wake up there.

Make him the highest paid DC @ 5m per and problem solved. My bet he would stay. That would be a big pay increase…………

Issue is, many times its about taking the next step and ego w these fellas... but also, $5M is nothing, as you know there will be some team offering $8-10M next season being a HC. The league LOVES poaching McVays staff... and they offer a hell of a lot for them to leave.
Again, if Shula can just look at Staley and Morris, maybe that helps us keep him a bit longer.
IMO, he will be gone by next season as a HC... His work and what he has done since taking over a bad Morris Defense, and made it pretty damn good is enough to earn him a HC... BUT, and its a BIG BUT... can he keep this momentum going with our Defense. Long season, we shall see

Agree with all but……….
I think he has a strong loyalty with McVay based on their history…………..

The only questions I had were at LBer until they fixed that position.

All the coaches that left were loyal as well... I think if they make a good run then he is gone... I'm sure McSnead have a plan for this already.

Understood. But……….
Those other coaches were not college teammates of McVay’s or to the best of my knowledge not been defined “close friends” prior to McVay adding them to His staff. As well as to the best of my knowledge none of those other coaches lived with McVay and his wife since they have been in LA. Shula has. All I’m saying is their friendship goes back many years and it appears it has been a brother like friendship.

I always thought a good resume started with how many championships you were involved with. Just because a guy can produce a good defense, doesn't equate into being a good head coaching candidate.
Although I must admit Shula has done great with what he has been given..... It's definitely more than what............
The Rams under Mcvay have won 1 SB. The coaches were KOC and Morris during those SBs. Mcvay has lost more than just those two cordinators. Ask Green Bay and Bengals and quite a few of Mcvay prior staff is around the League. For example Jacksonville.

My main issue is our inability or refusal to Set the Edge on D. Philly coming up and the threat of so many young QBs to break containment will make this a deal breaker for our Defense.

The thing that really stands out with Shula is his unpredictably.
That’s a great element to add.

Agreed. Rams have to keep Hurts in the pocket as much as possible

I agree, however with his last name Miami will offer him the world next year. And he may want to walk in that legacy. Imagine if he was the one who could rebuild that program. What a family NFL legend
