A bombshell illegal sports betting scheme involving four NBA teams and four Mafia crime families netted upwards of $7 million over two years, the FBI announced Thursday in a historic bust.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier and former NBA player Damon Jones are among those indicted in the stunning take down of two separate illegal gambling-related cases.

Thirty one people — including members of the Bonanno, Gambino, Genovese and Lucchese mafia families, and coaches and players from the Charlotte Hornets, Portland Trial Blazers, Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors — have been arrested in the scheme carried out between January 2022 and March 2024, officials said.

this is beyond a black eye for the NBA. The fact Rozier is making $26M a year and is doing this on the side is crazy. He was investigated 2 yrs ago so they already knew something was up. Silver has his hands full with this

Not to take away from the gravity of the situation, but calling Damon Jones a "star" is just a Weeeeeeeeee bit of a stretch. Dude averaged less than 7 points a game in a 10 year career. Role player at best, and so far, his participation is as a non paid coach not a player.

But come on, they had refs busted years ago for literally throwing games, and it took them THIS long to figure out players were doing it as well? As Rozier showed, it is PAINFULLY easy to affect a games outcome as a player, more so on a team such as the current Lakers team where, once you get into the bench, they got virtually nothing. A fake injury here, a couple of key turnovers at the right time, a few missed layups, not making defensive rotations, hell even slipping at the right time, key fouls. It shows the absolute GREED and PRAYER to the almighty dollar in the hearts of some of these players, since as ocram pointed out *26* MILLION dollars a year was not enough money for this clown. Offer the AVERAGE American *1* percent of that money a year and see the reaction you get
