Karty is being benched this weekend! What expectations do we have for this new guy?! I’m excited in the fact that we are doing something about it but it also in my opinion, not just the kickers fault so I guess my expectations aren’t high

The first thing I was going going to say was who is Stu Jackson? Senior staff writer rams. So I guess this is true. I am all for it. Keep Mevis in until he misses. Release Karty two games from now if he is nails. What is Karty's contract implications?

We'll see how it goes. Many wanted to trade for Carlson . He missed a kick to tie the game last night, and Pete Carrol is publicly pissed at him right now.

Im curious what they do on kickoffs. This is all new for Mevis. First off, I hope we kick off.....ALOT, but I dont want to keep giving the 9ers the ball at the 35 or 40 every time either.

Wow. And this would have been like a Stanford homecoming for Karty.

Can’t wait to see the results, not just Sunday but for the rest of the season.

Evans back to kickoff duty?

I think that was mostly me saying trade for Carlson last week. And I’d still say it…………

Pete needs to start at being publicly pissed at himself. Up by 7 in 2nd quarter, D playing well, and you go for it on 4th n 5 and Smith gets sack at midfield. What the punt to the one on the previous drive didn’t work…………..

He has done a poor job with the Raiders………..

Agree Rams can’t be giving their opponent the ball on the 35…………

Just heard that Jake McQuaide will be handling the Long Snapper duties against the 49ers on Sunday..so McVay is trying to improve our kicking game.

He made 21 out of 23 FG's this year in the UFL. Long was 56 yards. He had 6 games out of 11 that he kicked a FG 50 yards or longer. I think he'll be ready to go. I think he's well worth the risk. Hard to be worse than the worse kicker in the league...

As far as kickoffs go only 8.6% of his kicks were touchbacks. Since the NFL adopted the UFL kickoff rules I expect he's good to go there too...

His stats:

Besides sorting out special teams, hopefully they will be able to reclaim Wyatt Bowles.

How Chase Blackburn is still employed is absolutely beyond me. Karty feels like the scapegoat here. They have ruined that kid. I guarantee he will find success if he goes somewhere else.

It definitely makes you scratch your head because something that seems so easy to see and then it doesn’t happen… makes ya think what the hell are we missing or not understanding why he’s still employed

Good, I couldn't stand Karty anymore

Now Blackbum needs to go, problem is the only way McVay can get rid of his incompetent assistants is when another team poach them (see: Staley, Morris)

Hence why the kickoff rule blows. Just saying.

Wow is this code for Karty needs to polish up his real estate license?
There are a lot of layers to it,” McVay said. “:I still do have a lot of confidence in Josh Karty. He's not going anywhere but based on some of the things that we tried to evaluate throughout the course of the week – those guys both did a really good job. I was really pleased and really impressed and proud of how Josh handled himself this week. I think he's got a really bright future. I think he's done a lot of really good things for us. All the things that went into it in terms of just ultimately in its simplest form, who do I think gives us the best chance to have successful outcomes particularly in that operation with the given factors on Sunday against the Niners?”

Totally agree why he gets to escape when Wells and Karty don't. Most of the missed kicks were due to defenders breaking through the line.

Let Mevis kick till he misses. So far 2/2 XPs

No FG attempts, but I'll take that 6/6 PAT EVERY week... I trust McQuade to make the snap and not let someone go zipping by him before he can blink, which should help whoever is kicking

Wow. The extra points looked so much faster and stronger. I really think that that crispness resonates into overall team play.

I didn’t mind McVay not going for a field goal. The offensive rhythm seems to be peaking. Keep pushing it. Mevis got a great intro to the NFL going 6/6 on XP! Maybe there will be a field goal indoors at SoFI next week in the Seattle game.

McVay still doesn’t trust the FG kicking,

Up 21-14 on SF 28. 4th and 3. He passed up a 45 yard FG to go for it. The Rams did convert but not a smart play. You wanna go up 2 possessions there. I wish he trusted Mevis to see what he’s got.

As several have commented, the Evans kickoffs won’t work with the current rules. The spot puts the defense at a disadvantage. Then again, the Rams return coverage is a bit vulnerable, more on punts than kickoffs. What might they do with kickoffs against Seattle?

This^.

The offense was close to unstoppable today. Who do you trust with a 4th n very manageable inside the niners territory? A kicker making his first start or Stafford?

Most of us understand this……..

Exactly. This new guy kicks with purpose — he seems confident, and he’s striking the ball as soon as it’s ready, with no hesitation. Five of his six XPs today were right down the middle and really high; only one drifted a bit left. I like what I’ve seen so far.

I actually agree with you and Truth above here...

I think for me, I was hoping to see the kid kick at least one field goal. We need to get him some NFL kicks.. and my ONLY reason is, what if a kick is our only shot, and it either wins or loses the game... w everything on the line.. those kicks come w some experience.
