Chris Shula is getting a 2026 Head Coaching job right?

Has to be the Miami Dolphins. NFL loves stories and him being Don Shula’s grandson makes too much sense.

If you just look at the money spent on defense (which isn’t a lot) and look at the production. He’s got these guys all just doing their jobs. I thought last year we were soft because you had guys like Reeder, Rozenboom in the middle along with some green secondary players. Now it looks like a unit where the LBers (and Landman makes a huge difference) don’t miss tackles, the front 4 are all fast, and the secondary has guys are real feisty always around the ball and never get beat deep.

For years it seemed like the defense was all AD. But this season it feels like while we don’t have any superstars, we got a ton of good players on that side of the ball. And I think Shula will reap the benefits. And you gotta give Snead credit for building this defense with mostly guys in 2nd thru 6th end talent and guys off the scrap heap.

And with the defense all being young, this coiod be a really special unit going forward even if Shula leaves. Hopefully they promote in house again that certainly worked this time

I’m okay with this if it goes down? It’s hard to be critical of him the way the Rams are playing, however, but not a fan of his prevent and lack of aggressiveness at times.

My guess it's 50 / 50 right now. It will come down to Shula and what opportunities is offered. Miami would make a great story but the QB situation there is a concern and who will be the GM? The current GM has been mediocre imo. The Dolphins team was designed all wrong.

Agreed, Rams are spending the 2nd least amount on D, I believe.

Yeah, I agree. Shula will probably be gone unless the defense has some kind of late season meltdown. The downside of success in the nfl.

Would be unfortunate for his first job to be in Miami. Will unfairly measured to Don.

I am pretty sure he’s gone. And I think it would probably Albry Plesant’s turn.

Guys, Shula is all but gone... the sooner we realize this, the better. Shula will finish the season, then he is all but gone. So, who could take his place... that is the question...we know Rams hire with in, so....

Aubrey Pleasant (would be my pick... but he may even get poached)
Giff Smith
Mike Harris
Greg Williams

Hmmmm

I don’t think he’ll leave yet. Definitely not in 2026. He and McVay have had much more of a partnership than McVay has had with anyone else. He stuck around in less visible positions since 2017, and I see him riding out a young team with long-term potential. Plus, some coaches, like Spags, are at their best on either the defensive or offensive side, not both.

Miami opening has to be enticing though if it comes up... heading back to the perfect season team his granddaddy Don put together... hmmm. BUT, I hope you're right.. I just dont see the current Miami coach making it another season, McDaniels is one weird dude that has been figured out, but we shall see...

I refer to McDaniels as "Microsoft" because he looks a lot more like a software engineer rather than an NFL coach. Weird like one too.

Desperate teams will make a play for him and i expect him to be gone.

The only doubt i have is that he is no McVay in front of a microphone so may not interview well.

No QB in place = Short term HC tenure………….

There is only one McVay…………..

I seriously think the Rams will offer a raise to Shula that is enough for him to stay. That along with McVay's friendship.

I am leaning more of a drug cartel member... you know, he walks in, w that deep Spanish/Columbian accent, and says 'You know, we dont have to do this... you can just tell us where the dope is, and you can keep your fingers'... 🤷🏼‍♂️

Not much of a resume for the HC job IMO....Do like the Miami possibility and have to agree it seems like a match...in the end, I think Miami gives their guy one more year to prove he's not a maroon.

I think Shula is back...but I also agree Aubry should be the next guy up....however, I keep thinkling if Morriss get's canned in ATL McV is gonna give him a job...DC or assistant HC specializing the defense...they are homies and McV is not going to let him sit on the couch

My hope and dream is that both coaches stay where they are for one more year... (Miami keeps drug kingpin boy and we keep Shula)... WHY? Well I am glad you asked SB... 🤓

1. Stafford I think plays for at least one more year and this years QB draft class is useless 2nd to 3rd stringers in the NFL imo.
2. We have assembled a team that still has a lot left. Really, not many guys ready to retire or move on imo, and also locked in longer term.
3. McVay wont have to worry about a new DC and we can keep this rolling. It's taken Sean 3 seasons to get back to where we were from '21 to now, and we have almost an entirely new team from the '21 SB champ squad. But what is different this time from '21, is that we have a lot of guys for a few more seasons. In '21, many guys moved on or retired into '22. And imo, losing Big Whit was absolutely HUGE... as it's taken us this long to establish a solid OL again, I mean we went from Big White to NoteDoom. And minus Tyler Glass Havs, we have some solid young OL dudes that have a way to go.

So, I agree! at LEAST one more season would be ideal.

As always, Good Post SB.

I may be a little bias here because I am tired of all the constant changes with our team and would like to see some continuity for a few years. We are on the cusp of being really really special.

IMO if he is smart, he will remain right where he is. And here is my reasoning. Of course everyone would love to be a head coach.
I'm sure it's every coordinators dream. But, there are so many coordinators who have taken head coaching jobs recently that really haven't worked out. Just look at guys like Robert Saleh, Aaron Glenn and our very own Brandon Staley and Rahim Morris for example. Some guys are just better coordinators than they are head coaches. Even offensive coordinators often fail. Speaking of Miami, just look at Mike McDaniel or even guys like Josh McDaniel who has failed as a head coach in several places, to include L.A.

I think McVay and Shula have been together for a while and McVay has slowly promoted him to where he is now getting a lot of recognition. If he remains a top D coordinator for several years he will have his pick of any team he wants to coach and i'm sure there are a lot of better options than Miami right now. Why go there to fail? Saleh is a great coordinator but couldn't turn the Jets around. McDaniel has been great for the Patriots but can't turn around many other teams as a head coach.

Often times the grass looks greener on the other side until your standing in another yard.

And if we don't hire him Shula will. Pleasant would be a good choice and keep some continuity on D. Shula could also take some Ram's free agents with him - Curl, Lake, Witherspoon, Durant. Miami needs secondary help too.

I'd keep Durant, bc of his play making ability, but ut depends on $$$. Spoon shouldn't cost much. I have mixed feelings on Lake. So far I haven't seen much drop off, since his injury. Since he hasn't signed a extension yet, my guess he is looking for more money then the Rams are willing to pay.

If he knows himself he should realize he is not ready. He just does not seem to have the big personality that a successful head coach requires. I think he might have learned something from the Brandon Staley fiasco.

A goal of his … so in other words his agent is collecting ‘verbal offers’ as we speak… just like the Lane Kiffin debacle… these guys are hot, too many teams that are not… so expect some large paydays. Especially Lane.
