Per ProFootball.com

The Rams benched kicker Joshua Karty after he missed an extra point and a 39-yard field goal in a 34-10 win over the Saints on Nov. 2. Karty, though, had remained on the roster until Friday.

The Rams cut Karty, with Harrison Mevis having won the job.

Karty was only 10-of-15 on his field-goal attempts and missed three extra points.

Mevis is 2-for-2 on his field goal tries and 13-for-13 on field goals.

Karty’s release will make room for the return of Ahkello Witherspoon and Tutu Atwell after the Rams also placed cornerback Roger McCreary on injured reserve this week.

The Rams made Karty a sixth-round pick in 2024.

If/when he clears waivers I suspect they sign him to the PS

I hope so. We are 15-15 with the new snapper as well so that could have been a big part of the problem. Karty was perfect in the playoffs last year.

Good point....the LS was a disaster as well as ST's as a whole.

I see a new ST coordinator on the horizon...or is that just wishful thinking?

Karty has talent, but his head was crushed and needed the break....Not sold on Mevis for the long term yet, but I could change my mind

I just hope Karty makes it to the PS in case Mevis starts missing kicks. The competition will either be good for Karty or crush him.

Absolutely no surprise. No way you keep two kickers on active roster when there are needs at other positions. It will be interesting if Karty languishes in limbo land or gets picked up. Lot if movement in NFL with kickers.

He won't be back..some team is always looking for the next better option at place kicking. He was done in by a piss poor Long Snapper and then he lost his confidence and turned into head case. I hope he clears and we throw him on the PS..he has talent and a strong leg. But sometimes its between the ears that is the hardest to fix.

Can’t believe he stuck around this long, but then again … very wise by McVay and Co to do just this…

had time to see if Mevis was able to do the job, Karty was Rams insurance (although he was a policy that prob wouldn’t pay the claims) 🤷🏻‍♂️

NOW, WE WILL RALLY AROUND HARRISON MEVIS AND PLAY GOOD FOOTBALL.

Good. The ball is coming off Mevis leg great and you don’t need 2 kickers taking up roster space.

Maybe Tutu will be super motivated given it’s his contract year and he hasn’t done much to this point

Code for make sure your locker is completely cleaned out. You won't be allowed back in the building again.

Kind of like the whole ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ line…

We've been watching classic games from the 70's and 80's. It's amazing how bad kicking and punting was then. Chris Bahr missed 9 of 10 kicks from beyond 40 and still had the job. Frank Corral never made 70% of his kicks and had two consecutive seasons barely making 50% and still kept the job. Punting was a joke too.. several guys averaging under 40 yards a kick. Karty would be an all pro in those days..LOL

With Karty, it isn’t about leg strength, it is about timing and technique. He will end up somewhere.

I will forever remember Frank Corral's 3 FG's to beat the Bucs 9-0 to go to the Super Bowl in 1979. I just looked it up and he missed his 4th attempt.

I personally think Karty is a better kicker than Mevis, with much higher upside. Not saying this was the wrong move. Something had to be done and Mevis has answered the bell. I just think Karty was a casualty of a much bigger issue with the piss poor ST operation. I don't think he'll make it to our PS. He'll find long term success somewhere.

Yeah I've been watching some of them too. Carney 'barefoot' Lansford, last week of the season 1988 @ SF and they flashed his "mediocre" stats for the year, which included a season long FG of 47. Later on 4th down from the SF 32, they took a deliberate delay of game penalty and "Dale Hatcher" punted from the 37 to the 9er 10 instead of trying the FG from 49... Rams needed and won the game to qualify as a WC...

It only takes 24 hours to clear waivers and it's been what, 3 days? I just did a search and nobody has claimed Karty but it also doesn't say he cleared waivers.
