Matthew Stafford’s Back Injury Update: Receives Epidural for Aggravated Disc
Some sources have described it more severely as a herniated disc, which involves the disc’s inner material bulging out and potentially compressing nerves. Mild to moderate herniations may heal within a couple of months, while severe cases can take six months or longer.

Re: Matthew Stafford’s Back Injury Update: Receives Epidural for Aggravated Disc
As stated many times before, back injuries are tricky. He could be fine in two weeks, or it could take months to heal.
My take: this is going to be a lingering issue all season and will need to have continual treatment.

Re: Matthew Stafford’s Back Injury Update: Receives Epidural for Aggravated Disc
The crazy part, this type of injury just doesn't happen overnight. Its takes time to get to this. This is nuts and troublesome its now becoming public.
The worst part to me, is the mild to moderate herniations may heal in a COUPLE MONTHS, part...
ok, so lets just say its mild for Matt... and he starts game one... then gets nailed in the back from his blindside... Do we really all believe hes just going to be ok and walk it off. Heck no, so this is extremely concerning. Sure, the guy can start the first game, but at what cost if he gets nailed?. I can assure you all, you DO NOT want to be nailed w this condition in a game... and this is still ONLY IF ITS MILD.
NOW, and after seeing this news break last ngt...is that I am more on the side of Matt either retiring OR holding a clip board for most of the season. I just dont see how he will be 100% during games, ESPECIALLY if he gets sacked a few times.
*What we don't really know, is when this all started to affect him... as only the Rams, Matt, and his doctors know...my question is, when did this start to hit him? Was it a month or two ago and hes now at the tail end of this injury? Hmmm. Anyone know this?

Great take Delmar. I am in agreement with you. At this point, he is one hit away from a lifelong injury.DelMar wrote: ↑August 6th, 2025, 10:26 am The crazy part, this type of injury just doesn't happen overnight. Its takes time to get to this. This is nuts and troublesome its now becoming public.

Re: Matthew Stafford’s Back Injury Update: Receives Epidural for Aggravated Disc
I am curious what the Rams knew at the negotiation stage. Is this why that got a below market deal or was he playing hide the bulge?
This condition does not just pop up.

Agree. This not good. With rest and PT most of us get over herniated disc without surgery. However most of us are not starting QBs in NFL. To tell you the truth Matt could just move the wrong way and aggravate it, let alone take a hit. What is Jimmy up To? Say hello to the Rams starting QB.DelMar wrote: ↑August 6th, 2025, 10:26 am The crazy part, this type of injury just doesn't happen overnight. Its takes time to get to this. Re: Matthew Stafford’s Back Injury Update: Receives Epidural for Aggravated Disc
Didn't he just fully participate in OTA's in Maui in June? I can't imagine he went from that to a step away from retiring in 6 weeks of off-season. Maybe we should calm down a little and see how it plays out.

Ok, folks...got it.
let's all just calm down and be in the dark because we are not entitled to any info on Matt. Let's just all wait and see who starts game one, and if our season hinges on Gropp or Matt at the last minute. Let's not be concerned that our Super bowl caliber QB could be out for the season, retire or if he comes back after 5 games into the season. We have shown it doesn't matter anyways, since we start so damn slow. So, no big deal.
Sounds fun.

Re: Matthew Stafford’s Back Injury Update: Receives Epidural for Aggravated Disc
Me too, I guess.
I absolutely know I am being a little bitch about this, but this is bothersome to me... if I didnt see our Rams having a true shot at winning a chip this season (like I have), this wouldn't bother me that much.. but since I (had) the feelings of the 2021 season all over again, I was getting pumped about this coming season and heading to LEVI stadium in February... but apparently... I put the wagon in front of the horses, and now we have no idea where we are going, as I am in the back of this ol wagon, making some beef jerky, and staring into the abyss of the unknown.
Ugh
I just hope this back thing is a nothing burger and we see the Matt of old.
