is the defense disappointing
Mac Jones is not a horrible quarterback, but he is not Tom Brady, he certainly is not Matt Stafford, yet this defense is allowing him to look like that, they have to play a lot better a lot a lot better
If we can't get pressure on this guy we can lose this game

Shanny has always brought his A game against us.
This is nothing new.

Our D sucked today and it does matter . Jones had a career day vs our D . No pass rush whatsoever with ZERO sacks.

Re: is the defense disappointing
The D was fine when you consider they were playing a good offense on the road.. Niners has a good offense.
Maybe bc I was expecting them to give up around 24, going into this game, which they did. Less then that, minus the garbage time td.
The 49ers' 2025 offensive rank is 10th in total yards per game (352.1) and 8th in points per game (26.1). The Niners has a very good offense.

But when you think about it a good defense even when they play a good offense or still gonna get there punches in, we really didn't get any pressure on this guy maybe one or two plays??

Re: is the defense disappointing
Sorry but this was not a good D effort - 1 Sack in the past 2 games with very little pressure. Going forward if the front 7 do not discover a pass rush - especially vs Darnold ( a better QB than Mac Jones) and Seattle, the Rams will be in serious trouble as we hit the meat of a hard schedule.

Re: is the defense disappointing
I blame Shula for the non productive defense. Not rushing 5 or blitzing getting a QB off his spot and needing to run. 2 games in a row we gave up 26 it's no pass rush and the defensive backs gave up a ton of catches.

Re: is the defense disappointing
I’m not going to back off what I already said that the D was disappointing today………..
I’m also going to say that one can state what I’m about ready to say didn’t necessarily work great today. But………
Before today CMC led the league in yards from scrimmage. Any thoughts by the couch DC’s that them rushing just 3 n putting 8 in coverage on 3rd down maybe was the strategy in dealing with the league leader in yards from scrimmage? Any? Rush 5 or 6 in you don't get to Jones leaves how many in coverage to defend CMC, Kittle, etc……..
Yes CMC ended up with 99 yards total but that defines keeping him somewhat in check and not having a huge day doesn’t it?……….

Re: is the defense disappointing
Rams went up big early and didn't need to blitz. Also, Jones was getting rid of the ball in under 3 seconds for his dink and dunk offense that plodded their way down the field.
I thought Shula played it exactly the way he should...make them earn every yard

Re: is the defense disappointing
That is a good take but I would still like him to be a little more aggressive . ZERO sacks against Jones was not good .sanbagger wrote: ↑November 10th, 2025, 2:25 am Rams went up big early and didn't need to blitz. Re: is the defense disappointing
Watching the game, I felt both teams could have completed every 6-8 yard pass and just move the chains all day. Shanny is more patient than McVay and Jones is less aggressive/skilled than Stafford. So those turnovers were the difference. Neither D was stopping the other side for the most part. Not sure how we defend those short passes, but we can;t seem to do it. Thankfully we just outscored them and yes- the TO was the difference. Would have been real different also if we missed that 4th and short. Momentum was moving their way. That was a huge drive.

Agree w all the above... the issue for me is, can this D help us into the SB,though?Cornell29 wrote: ↑November 9th, 2025, 4:22 pm The D was fine when you consider they were playing a good offense on the road.. Niners has a good offense.

Like '21, our offense was fire, and the D gave up a lot of big yards... crazy how similar this season to '21.
IMO, Defense needs more energy and for whatever reason, Shula does not do a lot of pressure... when we did bring the pressure yesterday, we got out of some close jams (the 4th and 1 we stopped was massive). But Shula sometimes gets into the ol' Morris schemes, with soft preventive. I just hate it when its 3rd and 4 and our safeties and DB's are 20 yards off the ball, then they immediately run back even farther when the ball is snapped, leaving these GAPING holes so the dink and dunk wins out OR our DB's got lost in the plays and NO ONE covered Kittle heading to the out... (Like Kittles wide open TD's to the out. His route was a simple 5-8 yard then outs..and there is NO one around (and this happened more than once). In fact Kittle was not even touched till he was in the end-zone.
NOW, I realize pressure is not good on every play, I'm just wondering why we do not do it more.

Re: is the defense disappointing
Depending on what stat we looked at, the D was top 5 in rankings before yesterday. Some had this D as high as 1 or 2. Now we are worried they may not be good enough to get this team to the SB after a subpar performance yesterday………
I despise the niners more than anyone. But let’s not forget this D lined up yesterday against 3 1st ballot HOF still playing at a high level……….
