$700 Million Contract
Most likely in the US. May not be worldwide because some of those soccer contracts are *really* wildSafety Blitz wrote: ↑December 9th, 2023, 12:49 pm Is that a professional sport's record. Ohtani is a Dodger for life.
Certainly MLB. Largest before was Trout 420+ million and season is far higher than Verlander's 43.5 million
Best thing for Dodgers is most is deferred (Ohtani's idea) so that the Dodgers face lower competitive balance tax giving the ability to add talent throughout the course of the contract.
I know they are interested in the new Japanese kid coming over and I think they should make a real run at him. Would give Ohtani someone from home he could talk to and help both be more comfortable in the dugout and on the road
GR .. shaken not stirred

Re: $700 Million Contract
Correct, largest contract in North America, but not the planet. Again, context matters and Blitz doesn’t seem to understand this basic fundamental fact.GoldenRam wrote: ↑December 9th, 2023, 1:30 pmMost likely in the US. I was in an argument a few months back with Brooklyn Ram about this coming deal. I kept saying he will get $650-$700M. He kept saying $450-500M.
I am an avid Angels fan and what many may not realize is that Ohtani has a massive Asian following. At times, Angels stadium would be half Asians in attendance. I personally thought it was awesome, as my close friend is Asian and never really watched American baseball till Ohtani. Suddenly he was wearing Angel gear and going to games… (I’m sure it’s all going to be blue gear now).
But my point is, Ohtani brings an unbelievable amount of revenue from a market not really tapped before. And it’s a MASSIVE market here in So Cal.
Good for Ohtani. He’s a good dude and a generation talent (maybe even more). I knew my Angels couldn’t hold on to him. Makes me so pissed too, as we’ve had that last few seasons arguably the two greatest baseball players in HISTORY. Trout and Ohtani were special to watch together. But this is what happens when you have a ‘poor’ owner.
The Dodgers have an ownership group that is loaded. Just like Kronk is for our Rams. When you have a wealthy owner… you can sign deals like this.
As the saying goes… probably players are rich, but the guys signing their checks are wealthy.
Go get’m Ohtani. Thanks for the years on the Angels

Re: $700 Million Contract
the deferred part of the contract is pure genius. now they are in the process of getting more help with pitching Glasnow and possibly Yamamoto.
Now re-sign Kershaw please

Re: $700 Million Contract
You really want Kershaw back?
I am on the fence about the man. If they can sign him for $17-20M, on another one year deal, sure. But, he just falls apart in the playoffs. It is truly bizarre. I mean Kershaw is at 13-13 with an ERA of 4.49, 213 strikeouts and 1 save in 39 appearances in the postseason in his career.
For example, OC....In the 2014 postseason, he had a 7.82 ERA in two starts (12.2 innings). He has in two other postseasons had an ERA above 6.00, coming in 2009 (6.08 in 13.1 innings) and 2019 (7.11 ERA in 6.1 innings).
Here's a look at his playoff stats by round...

Re: $700 Million Contract
I do. If you use him right he can be valuable. Remember last year the 1st half of the season he was awesome. they over used him IMO.DelMar wrote: ↑December 13th, 2023, 12:05 pmYou really want Kershaw back?

they need pitching desperately so I think they keep him. Granted not sure he is worth $20M though. may have to take a pay cut to stay
