Sean Dolac to start Game 4?

Post by EastBayRamsFan »

The Eagles rushed for approximately 600 yards in their two meetings last year. Omar Speights just did not have the line-to-line speed to catch Hurts and Barkley. He was absolutely gashed last season in both games.

If McVay sees this in the box score again in this year's game expect Sean Dolac to start the following week #4.

Oh, and Landman and Poona Ford aren't goanna help much as it was on the sidelines that killed us.

So, you are blaming INSIDE linebackers and DT for failing to contain OUTSIDE rushes. So pray, what responsibilities do you assign to the DE and OUTSIDE linebackers?

It’s generally good form to read the full post before responding. I clearly did not blame the DT as I said our new one will not help much.

I think our 3-4 lineman are all down linemen and not traditional outside backers. Young has speed and is to blame too. But once the Eagles got past our 3-4 unit the inside backers were totally ineffective.

Sorry, but in my mind "not going to help much" is assigning some level of blame. I realize that may be different than how others see that.

As for the rest, is that not the whole point of setting the edge? To keep runners FROM the sidelines? As such, that would be the job of the DE's and EDGE, so I maintain the failure is not inside as much as outside. If the scheme hinders that, then I would suggest that some alterations to the scheme would be in order, rather than saying the failure lies with the sideline to sideline speed of an ILB and suggesting that player may need replacement because his lack of speed is hindering the control of an aspect of the D that is not the focus of his position

I didn't see the need to even involve Poona and Landman in the conversation at all, let alone Speights, since the question involves an aspect separate from their primary job which is the interior D

It also seemed, to me at any rate, that you were essentially throwing Speights under the bus for our lack of controlling the sideline runs, rather than holding those on the outside to task for failing in their responsibilities.

Yes, everyone flows to the ball, and could increased sideline to sideline speed be helpful from the ILB, of course, but saying the replacement of ONE player, on the interior of the D, who you deem to have insufficient speed to get outside in a timely enough manner is somehow going to alter the teams ability to stop sideline runs does not imo, hold a lot of water

I like Dolac’s story. He’s clearly an overachiever. Wasn’t recruited out of high school. Went to a prep school. Then walked on at Buffalo and ended up being MAC POY. Plus he’s already almost 24.

McVay probably loves a guy like this to cut a 5th rounder to keep him

Not sure what you mean here..."Once the Eagles got past our 3-4 unit the inside linebackers were totally ineffective"

You realize the inside linebackers are part of that 3-4 right? Not many players are effective once a RB with the speed of Barkley gets by them.

I thought the entire LB unit along with the line was brutalized by the Eagles running game...there are many reasons this could be but I think most was due to youth and out of position as coaches have stated.

However...how many sacks did the Rams have in that game (rhetorical)? against a running QB no less. The Rams pinned their ears and were going for broke and the Eagles gashed a young group that has learned some tough lessons

Yada yada yada, Sean Dolac is the new Rok Watkins.

I think Dolac's game is a high motor, blue collar football player. I looked up Dolac's 40 time and it's 4.55 so I'm not sure yet if he's a sideline to sideline ILB. It would sure be nice to have one of those someday and hopefully Verse, Fisk and everybody else is still here.

Well, since Shaun Dolac plays at ILB, I'm not clear on how much help he's going to be 'on the sidelines' either... ;)

RAM SEASON!!
