Rams Kick Off Padded Practices: McVay and Turner Highlight Physicality, Standouts, and Defensive Growth

Post by GlendoraRam »

Defensive improvements were a recurring theme, with Turner expressing unbridled enthusiasm for the unit’s potential. “I’m ecstatic, if you can’t tell already… about what this defense is going to be,” he said. He particularly lauded defensive tackle Poona Ford’s performance in the run-heavy drills, stating, “(Poona Ford), really, like, you saw his worth today… Just the way that he commands attention, the way that he defeats double teams, and then obviously he has a lot of pass rush ability.”

I really hope so, I just dont want to put the wagon in front of the horses here... in saying 'elite'.

I know the D front will be ELITE... shoot, our DL backups would be starters on most other NFL squads. I know some in here believe the back field could be a top 10 D, but going off of last years stats, we def need to improve...BUT, the guys were young then, so my hope is, they have matured enough to be a OVERALL top defense. I am cautious, but extremely hopeful.

I want to drink the cool-aid... I really do. Just need to see some games first.

Biggest question mark on defenses, at least to me, is the secondary and ILB.

I like the emphasis they continually place on the dline. If you can't stop the run, you can't beat anyone.

That’s fair… The factors I am counting on are of course the young Dline being a year older Turner’s leadership, the addition of Ford, Pleasent and Shula’s ability to scheme up the back end, the back end facing our wr corps in practice daily, and lastly I really think this year’s offense will put points up fast. Meaning most teams will be playing from behind making most of our opponents one demential.

I usually take a wait and see stance as you are, but I feel this one.

Agreed

I believe we have up graded at ILB even with the back ups
