Jiihad Campbell is the player to take in the 1st round

Post by malibu »

Jiihad Campbell answers a ton of questions for the RAMS defense.

Outside of his torn labrum he is the perfect hybrid 3 down ILB.

PFF rating as a tackler - 95% rarely ever misses a tackle.

PFF rating as a sideline to sideline guy - 83% very quick and solves RBs out wide and the coverage in the short intermediate game

RAS score 9.83 which is almost perfect

Also he was a 5 star recruit out of high school originally as an OLB. He rushes the passer great an added dimension that is often overlooked by ILBs.

Conclusion if he drops due to his shoulder injury or gets closes enough for us to move up slightly 3-5 spots we should take him over Loveland, or a Tackle, or Wide Receiver. He is a perfect hybrid ILB that has the size, speed and strong tape to really help our defense. I keep hearing WR names at #26 or slight trade down - why do this? We can always find them next year in FA or the draft it makes ZERO sense to take one when our 2 biggest needs are ILB and CB especially if they are sitting behind 4 other WRS on the team. Others say we never value ILBs highly well tell Philly that after Barkley ran 4 times for 70+ yard scores and Hurts ran a long one in as well. Campbell shores up the short to mid pass game, is a sure tackler and will be able to blitz when called upon. Don't trade out of the pick lets get this freak. We are very close to having a complete team. If somehow Alexander from Greenbay frees up we solve our CB issues and Campbell is the last piece. Quality over quantity.

I'm highly doubtful that the McVay/Snead regime values the ILB position enough to expend a first-round draft pick on strengthening it, plus there is the injury issue with this guy... :? ;) :o

He will recover I have read gms are not concerned with injury. Also he has been going up the board not down in my mocks so clearly the people in the know feel otherwise about his short term prognosis.

Great post Malibu!

I agree in spades with the Jiihad Campbell pick.

The Rams have all of the pieces including CB and O-Line. The last piece is a real athletic ILB who can tackle and plug the middle.

He does not need to cover, he does not need to blitz....I pure monster linebackers to stop running backs and control the middle.

I would sign up for this. Unfortunately, McSnead will likely do their shopping in the toy department.

Potential Return Date: If Campbell had surgery in March, his earliest return date would be roughly sometime in July, potentially in time for training camp and the start of the season. Average healing time 4 to 6 months. With the caveat that top line athletes have access to all the advancements in surgery, pt, stem cell therapy....

Well yes the other ILB, whether or not it's Campbell does need to cover because Speights isn't that guy at the moment. TE coverage in the middle has been a problem for a spell now. OR since Littleton left. If Campbell can't cover, then his drafting only solves half the problem.. In my eyes not good enough from an ILB drafted in the 1st round otherwise. I still say CB or OL is where they go.

I'm all in for Campbell. Cannot compare his recovery ability to any of us folks, who go to PT for an hour after work. This is all he'll do, all day, every day.

We both know he gets “stuck” on a position or player and it’s either the Rams draft him or they bleeped up.

You n I? BPA because we have seen you don’t do it then you usually become bad quickly. And we recognize, even though not perfect no organization is, McVay n Sneed have shown they know what they need.

I recognize he may be fine but it is a labrum tear for a ILB. Not a WR……..

Many keep harping on his injury tons of players have had injuries coming out of college into the draft. Like I said most mocks especially the ex scouts and GMs have him moving up the board. Don't you think they know he has a labrum tear. They do and they factored that I to their evaluation. I am seeing him as high as #9.

you are seeing mock drafts done by people like us so IMO they aren't factoring in the position he plays. Like NorCal said for a WR no big deal but for a LB it is a horrible injury

I think the ILB from the Falcons helped seal the deal on not going ILB at 26. We were a few plays from SB with a pretty mediocre ILB crew. We will fall down BADLY if we don't have a backup LT and AJ goes down.

These are credible ex scouts and GMs mocks as well as TV analysts they understand he has a tear. Short term loss for long term gain. We fixed the Center position which was one reason we were not in the SB last year but the main reason besides the Dotson penalty and the whiff by Limmer was the 2 long TDs and a Hurts TD. We must have better ILB play those plays hurt us more the whiff and penalty those last two came at an inopportune time but still if we limited all those 3 long TDs we would have never been in that position in the first place. As a reminder which I have stated before Barkley in the regular season game has 2 long TDs we must fix this issue.

We don't need to draft a WR, QB or RB. We need a CB #1 if he exists in the first round and ILB side line to sideline type not a Speights type and a back up Tackle to have insurance in case Rob or Alaric go down. Nice to draft a TE but others can be had later same with Safety. We are so close to locking in every starter with the best possible we must address the ILB and CB and BU Tackle.

The Rams still need another solid starter at ILB, however I simply can't envision the McVay/Snead regime expending a first-round draft selection on the position.

If the Good Guys don't trade down plus there isn't a major 'steal' available, I'm figuring on them likely taking a CB at #26 overall, if not that then a swing OT... :? :)

I think focus will be on D with the 1st pick unless someone juicy drops to them on the offensive side. Now that could be a TE, WR or even an OT. I hope not RB. LB and DB's are a need for sure. I do like the LB from Oregon dude can fly

“ We don't need to draft a WR, QB or RB.”

Says you which you are entitled to your opinion as long as IMO you don’t shove it down the forum “throats” by saying it over n over again. But it’s not says McVay or Snead. It could be but……..

McVay has more than once mentioned he wants to get better at the skill positions on offense since the end of last year. If you choose to ignore that’s on you……..
