Draft - What does your gut say?

Post by Ants »

I recall the buzz around here when Tevon Austin's name started being thrown around as the Rams 1st round pick (along with Ogletree). I'm not sure if someone here had intel on the situation - but it came to pass. I was on board with Ogletree but not TA. I just didn't think it was a good idea to draft TA in the 1st round. But as I recall...my gut said that the rumors were true, as much as I didn't want to believe it.

Anyway...what does your gut say about this draft?
I think if Loveland falls to the Rams, they take him.
If not, they attempt to trade back into the top of 2nd round with the Browns or Giants (assuming neither take a QB early in round 1).
If that doesn't happen and the Rams are forced to draft at 26?...I'm thinking it's gonna be a CB - like Hariston out of Kentucky.
...could be one of the edge guys like Pearce or Scourton...does the NC RB Omarian Hampton remind anyone of E. Dickerson in his style? :D

Oh how I wish I could see the how the Rams draft board is stacked! 8-)

My gut is telling me that spot 26 is not a great place to be for the Rams... all their coveted players will be gone (Jihaad, Warren, Loveland, Simmons) and of the remaining positions, there is no one that they love.. so my bet is a trade back into the 2nd and seek value.. maybe take a CB

I am with DVA. Most likely Loveland won't be there. Rams wire-
There’s a big gap between the Rams’ first pick at 26 and their second at No. 90, so they could look to trade down and shorten that 64-pick wait.

I'm also in the trade back camp. 1st 2 picks will (hopefully) be a CB/OL/TE.

My gut is edge/DE because there will still be some really good ones down there at 26. Our starters are elite but we have no real depth at OLB or DE. If they are BPA I'd do it and get a CB later.

Every time my gut says something about what we may do… we do the opposite. And I’ve also learned to trust the McSnead regime, as we’ve had some solid drafts last couple of seasons.

I do hope however we avoid the shiny toys as the spots we so desperately need are not high profile spots. We all know those needs in here, sure the good debates on what spots is more important and in what order, but I think a large number of us think CB or LB would be a solid first pic (I do think we’ll be trading out of 26 spot).

I guess the one exception I would have IF we kept 26 spot , and would be a very shiny toy I’d actually be ok w…, would be Dart. I think the kid could be a great NFL level QB. Under McVay, watch out.

Draft starts Thursday and what’s even more amazing, we actually have a pick on this day… (or do we)…😎😂

can't wait for thursday. I agree with what you are guys are saying. My gut says one thing but I have no idea what they are thinking obviously. if one of their top picks is still on the board, whoever that may be, I think they use the 1st round pick. If not I could see them trading back.
Can't wait

If the 3 QBs and 2 TEs are off the board, 25-32 could end up being a black hole for selections, meaning finding someone looking to jump back in to rd 1 could be slim pickins too.

If that's the case, and camobell is gone, and they keep their pick, i think it goes in this order.
OL
CB
WR
QB

Disclaimer: if RB Hampton from UNC is there, it might be hard for them to pass on him.

Personally, I hope there's a QB there that the Browns and Giants both want, and a bidding war ensues, and it results in an overpay for the trade-up.

Trade back unless someone they had rated as top 15 falls to them at 26 which is doubtful.

I hate going from 26 to 90 and then from 127 to 190. More importantly I think Sneed does too. And most say after the rated top 10-12 you then have a lot of players about the same in regards to career NFL projections.

And JMO no list by assumed position needs. You follow your board and take BPA.

I'm pretty sure we have no idea who the Rams covet in this draft...maybe TE Warren, but that's about it.

I sort of agree...but then I start to think about it - these are really good pass rushers, and pass rushers (until this year) were really valued by teams. Why would they get pushed down that far? I guess none of them appear to be "elite" at this point, just like most of the players in this draft. Still, there are tons of VERY GOOD players in this draft. I really like the talent in this draft - it's not star-studded, but lots of good prospects.

If Rams stay at 26, I am hoping for a starter. Biggest need for starter is a top CB or ILB.

My head says draft Oline depth at 26; my gut notes that McVay likes offensive toys, so WR is the likely pick.

I wrote a big long post then my computer locked up and I lost it all. Basically said edge would be one of the few positions where I'd spend a luxury pick.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a starting CB or of course Campbell. My new gut is starting to say WR :o Apparently a lot of teams want to trade down with no takers so we might sick and pick at 26.

26 could end up being a black hole if nobody is interested in trading up. I'd prefer not drafting a WR in that spot, but you could very well be right.

I'm hoping Campbell, Barron, or Simmons are on the board at 26. Pretty doubtful.

No matter how it shakes out, there will be a cluster of good players at 26. CB, WR, OLB especially. I've seen a few mocks where Barron is available at 26 but you never know. I think people just copy each other's mock drafts.

The last time that I had a gut feeling about the draft was the Steve Avila pick. This time I’m going way out on a limb and say Carson Schwesinger, ILB UCLA

Agreed, except that it might prove nigh-impossible for the Rams to find a trade partner for the #26 overall pick; hopefully the McVay/Snead regime would be able to pull it off, getting perhaps a high second-round selection (Trey Amos?) and a high third-round one (Chris Paul, Jr.?) in return.

That would be optimal from my perspective... 8-) :) :geek:

Their going to either trade up or trade down 50/50 either way. No chance they stay at 26 though.
