I'm not sure we are actually done with him, but that seat he's taken is certainly getting a tad warm ...
Mevis, if nothing else, is certainly putting together a solid audition tape

Every kick is so straight. Looking forward to seeing him kick in some weather. Loved his 52-yarder tonight and his smile afterward.

My guess is the Rams are still hoping Karty snaps out of his funk or they're trying to get something for him if possible. Notice we only hear negative shit about him from the fanbase and nothing from the team but positive cliche's?

Re: Pack your bags Karty!
Maybe they learned a lesson when they dismissed Cameron Dicker (the punter kicker) so quickly a few years ago. And maybe they also learned that there should have been healthy competition for the special teams positions. Ward and Karty were a given from the start. I’m assuming that now it’s worth it to hold onto Karty, who is very talented and young, while testing Mevis is in different situations. He took huge steps last night. It also looked like his kickoffs just needed a hair shaved off to land just before the end zone instead of a couple of yards in it. They seem to be fine tuning him.

I said earlier it would take 5 FG attempts before we know... 3 to go !!!
But i wouldn't be surprised if its earlier. He just exudes confidence.

Re: Pack your bags Karty!
Based on the height of the ball going through the goal post it looks like Mevis' effect max range is about 58 yards with 60 as a possibility. That's good enough. All but one of his kicks were pretty much down the middle so far in his tenure. Im not trying to be cute, but Mevis' weight might actually be helpful with his mechanics in that it helps deter over steering his kicks simply because he isn't physically able to pivot like these traditional sized kickers can. His mechanics are more rigid that other kickers otherwise.

Good point, C. Makes me think a bit about Tom Dempsey, who had a few mobility constraints and defied incredible odds.

Interesting and accurate comparison. I never would have thought about Dempsey. I think Janakowski is the biggest kicker I've seen. He wasn't as thick below the waist as Mevis and Dempsey are/were.
