Maybe TE guru McVay finally found a TE for crying out loud
Gerald Everett was his first pick in 2017. Then a treasure trove of mid dudes in later rounds, Hunter Long in the Ramsey trade and free agent bust Parkinson day 1.
Meanwhile Tyler Higbee from Fisher era remains his best TE.
He spent another high pick on a TE. Guess corner isn’t a need.
I get the need as Higbee isn’t young and has health concerns, but he hasn’t really developed a TE here despite trying.
This is what happens when you sign a backup TE in free agency for no reason. You have to waste picks on the position.

I'm a little disappointed too but we have to wait and see him on the field. I just thought Amos, Ersery, or Revel would be smart picks. I bet they would have taken Taylor if he were there instead. Maybe even Will Johnson if his medicals were only short term.SoCalRam78 wrote: ↑April 25th, 2025, 5:20 pm Gerald Everett w as his first pick. Sidebar, Ersery to Houston 2 picks later.

On the surface it looks terrible. You had various plug n play starters at high value positions like CB and even OT and you take a 3rd tight end. Just bad value here given what the team needs.

I don't understand it. I'm glad we picked a TE but like you guys, I don't think he was the BPA. Now we need an ILB and at least one CB

They just don’t run two TE sets.

CBs were in the 2nd not the third and several fell that we could of had in Johnson or Amos.

I'm not happy. Will Johnson was right there! And so was Ersery. Not getting this. This dude better jump Higbee DAY 1. I'm all for Morrison or Porter next up. Both will probably be gone.

Re: Maybe TE guru McVay finally found a TE for crying out loud
I personally like the pick. I would have preferred a different pick at 26 but can’t complain about this one at 46. TE was a huge gap in my opinion. Hope this guy turns out to be good though.
Let’s see what happens with our next pick.

Yeah, I'm sort of thinking the same thing. The draft mag I have says that he should be a 6th round selection.
But on the flip side of that, his write-up is actually pretty good. It says he gets good separation, decent blocker, gets open. The big knock on him was that he doesn't get many YAC...as if ANY TE does.
I don't know --- I don't think the Rams use the TE enough to make it an important pick like this. But we shall see.

If this kid can catch, block, and take a big hit then I'm fine with the pick. YAC would be good too.

Uhh... Last I heard, Jalen Ramsey was still being looked at.. Just saying. Ferguson has the tools to be extremely disruptive in this offense. So, it's on McVay to properly weaponise the guy as other teams have similar guys.. I.E.. Kittle, Laporta

Re: Maybe TE guru McVay finally found a TE for crying out loud
For sure.. McVay is on the hook here as much as Ferguson. Guy has the talent.. Coach hasn't had that guy since Washington. Everett just wasn't consistent enough.. But Everett didn't have this guys measurables in totality.. So yeah, Sean, no excuses here if you ask me

Re: Maybe TE guru McVay finally found a TE for crying out loud
Hard to say right now if he'll be 2nd or 3rd TE. On the flip side, remember back when Kyren Williams was drafted many here were asking why they drafted an undersized, injury prone RB.

Not sure.
Did Oregon get the most out of him? He did produce when he got opportunities. He has measurables, speed and hands.
Don't really know what to think of him. Time will tell.

Re: Maybe TE guru McVay finally found a TE for crying out loud
They hardly ever feature the TE and can find just random guys to give them production look at the Super Bowl. Kid from Purdue had barely played all year and they put him in and he catches some balls.Ants wrote: ↑April 25th, 2025, 6:17 pmYeah, I'm sort of thinking the same thing. 2nd rd picks should be used on starters that play tons of snaps. Only way this makes sense is if they are planning to cut Higbee or Parkinson and save money

That was in the 5th round tho. I mean it’s a crapshoot at that level. A 2nd rd pick is a premium pickRamsfan08ny wrote: ↑April 25th, 2025, 7:29 pmHard to say right now if he'll be 2nd or 3rd TE. When you think this highly of a guy, you arent going to risk waiting past the 2nd round to get him. We will see if he is right.

Re: Maybe TE guru McVay finally found a TE for crying out loud
I guess with McVay it's a matter of looking at traits primarily, and then production.
When I read about Ferguson and see the combine-type stats - yeah, he seems to be a McVay type of player. Why the media types (even the ones who really dig into this stuff) didn't hype him a little more? I don't know.
We also don't know the player's personality - is he a "dog"? Is the attitude good? Is he a team-first sort of guy? All of that counts, too.

Re: Maybe TE guru McVay finally found a TE for crying out loud
it is fucking terrible because they don't target the tight end that much anyway, so now you have a third tight end trying to get targets in 11 personnel sets, and we pass up plug and play three down starters for that??? Bowers is lucky Mcvay didn't trade up for him last year , he targets the TE three or four times a game.

The more I read about him and the more I listen to McVay, I'm sold. I think he's faster and a lot more athletic than our current TE's. All of them.
